Cal Fire urges Californians to stay away from neighborhoods still under evacuation orders, even if the fires on their streets have been extinguished.
"We have downed power lines that may still be live, unknown gas line conditions, and toxic ash from burned homes containing petroleum products, making these areas unsafe for families," Cal Fire Battalion Chief David Acuña said during an interview with CNN’s Kate Bolduan on Monday.
With the National Weather Service issuing warnings of “extremely critical” fire conditions that could accelerate the spread of flames, Acuña emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant.
"The entire region must be prepared to evacuate," he said. "Evacuation orders could still be issued anywhere from Ventura to San Diego."
